Urban regeneration policies in Iran have been formed to improve the quality of urban life. These policies, concerning local characteristics, emphasize the improvement and renovation of urban tissues. One of the main goals of these policies is to improve the quality of urban life, which in practice is often measured by quantitative criteria. Focusing only on quantitative measures may reduce the importance and role of qualitative developments that form the essence of regeneration actions.
This volume of the Haft Shahr Quarterly emphasizes the discussions of Policy Council meetings of the Urban Regeneration Organization of Iran. It presents the council members’ opinions that have been collected and documented in articles, notes, and interviews to extract the necessities and considerations ahead. The findings are categorized into three groups: content, procedure, and activism to draw general lines for the acceleration and effectiveness of the regeneration policies implementation.
Also, by introducing some field surveys and reporting related events, the opinions of residents of the target areas have been taken into account. To increase agreement between experts and academics, the importance of interaction and empathy in the specialized space has been emphasized so that ambiguities and ideological differences can be reduced and scientific agreements can be reached. These interactions can help to stabilize and institutionalize urban regeneration concepts and prepare the specialized community for more effective implementation of these policies.
